After owning this vacuum for 3 months it just chose me. I tried a few things and then remembered I didn't have any instructions. Make sure you download it from Hoover's website if you don't receive it. I didn't know about the filter on top of the collection tank and saw that it needed to be cleaned by flushing with water every 2 months. It dries for a long time, they say up to 24 hours, I usually had 8-10 hours later. When I replaced it the vacuum cleaner started working right away so I think the problem was in the hose which seems clean. The dirty filter has caused thermal overload and will automatically turn off and take about 30 minutes to reset. Didn't try rebooting overnight around 10am. The only thing I don't like is that the cord is about 10 feet shorter than my old one and I have to move it about 4 times to cover my house, which isn't a huge house. The canister seemed to fill up quickly, it's smaller than my old one but actually more dirt came out but now I can do the whole house with one canister. The price and cleanliness suit me. I saw it in Consumer Reports with a high rating. I, too, would like to one day have an easier-to-maintain suction cord when vacuuming. I always seem to change position so I don't step on him or he gets in the way. I usually carry it on my left shoulder and try to keep the cord behind me, but it's a constant struggle to make sure I don't trip and run over it.
