I recently bought a Tenere 700 and the stock seat is pretty bad for long trips. The seat is tall and narrow so there aren't many options that would fit, and some comfortable seats made for it start at $500! Ouch! It looked good and matched my seat well, and I took advantage of the fact that it has double mesh (with pockets closed at the ends but open on the sides). So I bought some gel (Revain $36) and cut it around the contour of my seat, used an old pillowcase, cut it out and sewed the gel in (the gel is sticky and I was also afraid it would disintegrate pretty quickly by rubbing directly on the spot). mesh) and sandwich it between two layers of mesh. I then used some small zippers to cover the sides of the two mesh layers. The straps are too long for my seat and have minimal Velcro for attachment, so I attached the straps in an "X" (front corner strap) shape. to the opposite back strap) which takes up a bit more length and is a safer way to keep the gel from slipping, in my opinion. However, only half of the velcro could be used, so we added a double 3M fastener (like velcro) to make it more secure. The seat is very comfortable for long rides and doesn't notice any shifting with the gel, but my bike is big and the weight is heavy so it doesn't have to lean heavily. The great thing is when I get in the dirt I just take it off and throw it in one of my panniers instead of having a comfy seat that's too high for me off-road.
