I like it but there are a few downsides.

I got my first electricity bill with this device today and I was glad that I actually used less electricity than last November, even though it was colder. I think it's because I can sit with my feet on the carpet and warm up, so I'm less likely to crank my thermostat up a few degrees. I have always suffered from terribly cold feet and until now this has not happened. And the cat loves it. Cons: I had an artificial IKEA rug. The heat from the heating pad released some of the carpeting into the air, giving me a headache, coughing, and eventually a nosebleed. I went and bought a (cheap and flimsy) wool rug and haven't suffered since. Natural fibers are better. Chemicals are released into the air when synthetic fibers are heated. Another shortcoming: I couldn't find a 70x70 carpet. My rug is about two inches shorter on one side. It seems that 70x70 is not a standard size. I want it not to turn off automatically after 6 hours.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
