Review on πŸ“Ά Medialink Wireless-N Broadband Router - 2.4GHz - 802.11b/g/n - Windows/Mac/Linux Compatible - 300 Mbps [Discontinued Model] by Anthony Savage

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I would return it if I could, terrible download speed.

First, I feel generous in giving it two stars, but I don't feel I can give it less because it does everything a router should. Most of my problem is that the description claims 300Mbps. I have service for 15 down and 1 up (I'd like more but it's expensive here) and that should be enough for my use. I only get 1 to 8 off this thing. 1-3 wireless and 2-8 wired. it's terrible. Sometimes the speed hits 8-10 Mbps or so, but usually it happens when I don't need it. For those who think it might be a service, it isn't. I originally called the ISP, they blamed the modem and router (I didn't want to rent them), so I ran speed tests on each device. From the modem I get 13-15 Mbps down and 1 up as it should, but once I get through the router it drops off significantly. My wife and I sometimes watch Netflix and this thing can hardly keep up. It's terrible, I'd like to return it, but it's been too long. The range is okay for the size of the device. I don't care because I live in a small apartment. Most of the signal range is outside my walls. I've been looking for additional protection and thought about flashing the firmware on dd-wrt but I can't find it anywhere if it's supported. I feel like I bought a non-brand and I'm actually REALLY paying for it. I want my money back and I want Asus, Netgear or Linksys. In Mediabridge's favor the router was very easy to set up, came with an ethernet cable (always a plus in my book) and is easy to set up. I didn't feel justified in giving less than two stars just for speed. To be honest everything else was great. However, I will no longer buy from Mediabridge. This router is useless to me if it doesn't always do what it advertises. I wouldn't even consider selling it to anyone.
