We are new to using the wood stove. Firewood is our most important heat source. This thermometer saves a marriage. We used to argue about closing the door/airflow etc. Now this thermometer tells a story and the argument ends (sort of). He still closes the door early when it starts, but at least I have concrete evidence to support my version. Seriously, I'm trying to learn how to recognize a good burn, a secondary burn, and all that technical stuff. I run outside to see if smoke is coming out, but with this thermometer I don't seem to have to keep running back and forth to see if the fire is burning clean. It burns "white” and nothing comes out of the pipe except heatwaves! This thermometer also tells us when it's time to charge. I am sure that over time we will be able to tell if the fire burns cleanly. Right now he's doing his duty bringing peace to this house and cleaning the chimney (less creosote build up).
