After some research and reading some forums I read that many people were effectively using 2-3 of it in tanks. much larger than mine, one person even claimed to have used a 300 watt tank in a 100 gallon tank and it worked great. -76). Now I don't know where these people lived but I know I live in Massachusetts which means I need something stronger in the winter because I like the cold but I don't like water so when everything is in my room 50-60 degrees, I have to turn on the sink. The heating is slightly higher. It kept my 72 gallons at a decent 74 degrees fairly consistently when the heater was only set at 78-80, which is surprisingly good! This isn't the case though, maybe after 1.5 months the light on this heater is always on and my tank started dropping to 64 or 62 degrees and I slowly increased it to the highest setting hoping to get my tank to warm up, and luckily it didn't do anything and didn't lose any fish. Temperature drop but now I replaced it with 2x200W heaters recommended by my local fish shop. I called Marineland and they asked for almost no information other than my mailing address and said a new one would be coming in 7-10 days. Marineland customer service is the only reason this heater got 2 stars instead of 1. If you need a heater I don't recommend it.
