I bought this stud locator to replace my 40 year old master who completely broke down in the middle of work. Compared to my old viewfinder, it's like comparing a Ford Model T to our new Rav 4. WOW! It's incredibly easy to use, very accurate, and packed with features I could only dream of when I was building a house when I was younger. I am 90 years old and needed to install a vertical safety bar in my bathroom. This finder not only gives you the exact centerline of the mandrel, but also the edges. When installing a handrail for the disabled, you need to know where the edges are so you can drill pilot holes at an angle to ensure you're going into wood and not drywall. Later that day our son, a commercial electrician, installed some very heavy wood carvings in the front foyer. He was amazed at how much better it was compared to his commercial device. He liked the fact that there were no buttons to press after calibrating this device. I liked the very easy way to insert a 9 volt battery without trying to pry the normal latch with wires. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to turn the device off, but pressing the mode button for a few seconds helped clear up that confusion. I found the 1 inch mode setting worked better on the drywall in our house. Our house is a prefab modular house with 6 inch walls, which might explain this build. This device exceeds all expectations and comes highly recommended.
