The grit of the black nail files is ideal: on the one hand it is quite fine, on the other hand it is a bit larger. I used thicker files but this one was thick enough. If you held one end of it and put a lot of pressure on the other you could break it, but I found it quite strong when using it like I normally do. The gray file has a coarser grain. At first I thought maybe the sand on the buffer blocks was too coarse, but then I realized that's normal. I've experimented with gel and powder and these products proved ideal.
