Review on 🎨 Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colour Paint Compact Set: 14 Half Pans for Artists by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

amazing colors and great for travel but check the colors supplied.

I wanted a compact watercolor travel set. There are loads of them, and while I'm quite a beginner, I wanted decent quality - the best "students" class. I have some Arteza Metallic watercolors (oh my gosh!) and Prima watercolors (sooo good) so I wanted to use a name for my travel kit that I've heard of. I watched a lot of product review videos on YouTube and thought this was the set for me. And in many ways! i love the size I know it says it holds 14 half pans, but I actually have 20. Where the brush is, 6 pans fit! That's when I found out that W&N half panels are a proprietary size. Only they are a bit smaller. Only W&N shells fit where the brush goes, but I was able to fit the Prima shell halves where the rest came off. I like the little water bowl. It's not as practical as I'd hoped, but I plan on putting an old-school plastic canister inside (it'll be waterproof and perfect for sitting on!) and pour in some more water. I also really like that the bottom bowl slides out for mixing. The colors are highly pigmented and don't wash out or appear chalky (I'm trying to figure out what a 'good' watercolor should and shouldn't do!). So why four stars? I bought this set because of the case itself and also because I needed Payne's gray and black ivory - both had to be included. None of them were admitted. So I put in 6 more pans - I had to buy ANOTHER set (I bought a random watercolor set from gencrafts) to go gray and black. Grrrrr. The description has already been updated since the purchase, but it's too late for me. I like it a lot, so I didn't want to send it back.

Pros
  • Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colors is a set of water colors made to our high quality standards but remain economical by replacing some of the more expensive pigments. with cheaper alternatives.
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
