These lights are much brighter than traditional recessed lights (see image for differences). This is mainly due to the fact that the light surface is almost flush with the ceiling and is not embedded in the surface like conventional recessed lights. Instead of an 80 degree cone of light, this one is probably 150 degrees. Installation is easy, just pull out the old cover, screw the new lamp into the socket, and then insert the new flat cover into the body. The metal clips can be made a little less rigid for easier installation as the new pad is very light and doesn't need special legs (clips) to hold it in place. Let's see how long the light lasts. (06/14/2020) Update: Two of the two dozen I've purchased have fallen off the ceiling in the last two years due to broken tension clamps. Apparently the clips were made of inferior metal. While the lights themselves are great, they're only as good as their weakest parts. I hope this is a party issue.
