Review on 🔌 Metra 70-8114: Steering Wheel Control Wire Harness with RCA for 2003-Up Toyota/Scion/Lexus Vehicles by Chris Lemm

The Metra steering wheel controls are a bit confusing. I used this on a 2007 Tacoma with a Pioneer NEX head unit and everything just plugged in and worked without any setup. What looks like a headphone jack on this product is the main unit's control output. The black connector connects to the brain of the Metra steering wheel controller and the white connector connects to the Toyota factory wiring harness. Be careful when juggling multiple earbuds like setup hacks as they can get tangled. The brain of the Metra steering wheel controller can be used on its own, but you'll need to splice factory wiring harnesses to make it work. It only works by plugging it in, so it's worth buying extra.
