Yes, you can take a sheet of plywood and build it yourself, but it's a really good option if you don't want to build it yourself. Easy assembly, all holes are pre-drilled and countersunk. I took the advice of another reviewer (volpster31) and installed the bottom shelf in the lowest section, resulting in a much larger bottom shelf. Yes I can only hold 3 drills at the moment but that's enough for me and the extra storage space is great. It was a very good idea and I thank him for it. Overall I am satisfied with this purchase.
