I bought these so the switch would fit in the electrical box after installing drywall over plaster and batten wall. A simple idea and very long screws are the key to success. Unfortunately, the seal isn't a hard plastic, as I expected, but a thick, dense rubber tube. Thus, when tightening the bolts, the tubing is compressed and the switch plate is never tightened. If the switch or socket doesn't sit flush with the adjacent wall material you'll need to trim it a little longer to get a tighter fit and if that's the case then you don't need a gasket, just long screws! It worked fine for a switch, but I would be concerned about bending an outlet when I unplug it. I only needed it for this one instance, and it worked satisfactorily, albeit a little expensive for just one switchplate!
