My house was built in 1955. PF valves are installed in both bathrooms. We read the instructions, looked at the diagrams, turned off the water supply and proceeded to disassemble the old leaky PF handles, valve assemblies and seats. At first I thought the new valves would never fit in the old saddle in the wall. I was willing to rip open the wall to remove and replace the seat assembly, but the installation instructions proved to be a great source of information. A 5/16 square drive was required to remove the valve seats. not easy to find in most hardware stores. However, with a little ingenuity I turned a 1/2" blank into a 5/16" blank to make the tooling needed to remove the valve seats. I needed a pipe wrench and monkey fat to take the hot water side off. Replacing valve seats is crucial if you expect a PF faucet not to leak. We removed the old valve seats and I'm glad I did because they were damaged. Using a blank the installation of the new seats was successful with a small amount of pipe thread sealant on the threads. Be sure to use all of the gaskets and install them in the correct order. . Look at the exploded diagrams to see the consistency. also read the instructions. With a little trepidation the project was completed and we were able to use the 1955 base in the wall. Thank you PF, it is smart engineering and a commitment from the company to offer such a quality upgrade kit for my bath and shower.
