Review on 📺 TCL 55-inch 6-Series 4K UHD QLED Roku Smart TV - 55R635, 2021 Model, Black with Dolby Vision HDR by Aaron Villanueva

I don't know what I was expecting here. I was very excited about this whole LED mini train. Some excessive gray bleeding in the upper corners is very disturbing and discouraging. Apparently, problems with TCL panels also exist with mini LEDs. For that reason alone I am very disappointed in this TV. It took me a while to make the settings. Dolby Vision content is reset and further adjusted even after each source's initial setup. The color is excellent. I don't see any bands going from gray to black. Banding seems really non-existent in general. It's good. From my point of view, it seems to get bright enough in dark rooms. I don't think it's as bright as some others in this price range. For example Hisense H9. Local dimming is mediocre. It was a mess watching Thor's very dark opening scene in Dolby Vision. This was with local dimming enabled. I moved it to the middle tier and it seems like the best way to use it. Roku is a pretty slim design. I've never used it, but I understand why there's fanfare. All in all, this is a decent TV if you win the panel lottery. I don't think it will be game changer like I expected. VRR promises good gaming performance for the future, although it doesn't support 4k 120MHz. I'm changing it right now to try and get a working panel. IF you win the TCL panel lottery you will love the TV. If you don't like me, you will regret wasting your time. Note: The highlight image in the corner is oversaturated by my phone. It's not that bad, but it's noticeable in darker scenes. Update: 8/19 replacement kit is ok. I've noticed that the biggest bloom issues tend to be with the 4k Firestick, which uses Dolby Vision by default. Perhaps they generate more data, which is sometimes difficult for the TV to detect with the lighting algorithm. I am not sure. All in all it's pretty good. Not outstanding, but good.
