Sits on an angle . . WHY ! !

Build quality is average, its just a thin piece of metal bent into shape. Its ok for most cases but i don't understand why it has to sit at an angle. Suppose you are working on your car or in your shop and need somewhere to put your drink on so its not in the way of your tools. I paid about 60 bucks for a 4 piece set, i think its way over priced for what you get.
