Review on Solder Fume Extractor: Industrial Grade Filtration for Soldering Power & Hand Tools by Marco Hubbard

Cool Portable Filter

This is a nice little product. Some features of this mini filter.* Intention. Designed to complement hobby soldering, this filter can be used in a variety of ways including reducing woodworking smoke odor.* Efficiency. This is a portable two-stage air filter. It doesn't perfectly filter fumes from your workspace, so it would be wise to open a window even when using this device. However, a simple test of holding an unlit match, sniffing it and watching the exhaust will show how much "smoke" is being removed from the air. It definitely helps.* Compact. Its extra-small size makes it easy to pack away between projects, which is great for those of us who don't have a dedicated hobbyist workstation.* Interchangeable filters. Both filter stages are interchangeable. Includes a replaceable first stage screen.* Quiet. Fans can be noisy, but when they're on, they're almost inaudible.* Stylish. Not really important, but the colored boxes look nice(?). * Relatively cheap. Summary: As someone who does a bit of hobby soldering here and there, it's nice to have this as an extra safety measure when I have a soldering project. I'll still open windows for better ventilation, but I'm happy to add this to my hobby toolbox.
