I bought this burner from another company and as soon as I opened the package I smelled a terrible plastic smell. sent it off exactly as he said. but I ran 8 gallons through the unit and never got rid of the plastic smell and taste. So. I really wanted one so I tried this company, same problem. terrible smell and taste of plastic. BUT!, since I really wanted this to work for me, I took plastic spacers from a block (3) of them. One at the bottom of the glass jar, one under the glass jar lid and one at the top of the burner. I washed them several times with dish soap, it still smelled. but don't give up I cooked them on the stovetop with water, dish soap, and lemon essential oils and let them steep for about an hour. Finally there is no more plastic smell, although water never touches plastic, the water and the block will smell. I hope this helps someone as I really wanted to be able to make my own distilled water and if I hadn't taken the lead in removing, washing and soaking the plastic I would have returned this one too. Some may not have the issues I had and that would be great, but I did and here is how I fixed the issue.
