First of all I am writing about the product, not the delivery like some people do. Shipping has nothing to do with the product itself. It was mainly developed for pencils. A pencil case is depicted on the front boot. However, it's as perfect as it gets, except it's a bit pricey. Second, it can hold pens and markers. However, you should keep in mind that pens and markers are approximately 25% larger in diameter. With it you can put 3 pens in the slot, 2 gel pens or fine markers or 1 highlighter. You can make 2 marks per slot if you alternate the pen direction with one up and one down in the middle. If you are using markers or pens, you cannot use the last back cover as it will make it too thick to close. If you use markers, you'll lose at least the front and back of a flap, and maybe even the third page. I like the outer flap as a place for my current color choices for a project I'm working on. I use markers and the caps are not always color accurate and the markers don't rub off. I also load my pens and markers from crown to back. This is so when I use it openly the ink is pulled towards the tips by gravity. This allows me to get more out of pens and markers. When I fold them down, my markers still work 5 years and over a hundred pages of art later. Some of them are Crayola but most are Rose Art. Both are great products. Some have changed color a bit, especially the grays, but now I have more of the sage and olive I used for the foliage.
