Natural hair color 5a, but I prefer something darker. I've tried pretty much every standard 4N or 4A dye, as well as some pro dyes (Redken, Matrix, Wella) and they always come out almost pitch black (and haven't faded to level 4 in months). I mixed this with some random cheap vol 10 developer and was concerned it didn't actually look like it would change color. I went with it anyway, starting at the roots and then combing through to the ends. With a 2:1 developer to dye ratio, the mixture is fluffy enough to spread easily over the tips with a brush or wide-toothed comb. Only leave it on for 5 minutes when I'm done, but I have very thick hair and need time to cover it all, so the roots were probably 20-30m saturated by this point. The ends of my hair are very damaged because I previously bleached them white, so they discolor very quickly. If you have virgin hair, hair that isn't very damaged, or if your hair isn't so thick that it takes forever to just cover the roots, you can leave it on longer. It washes off very easily and has a 3.5N. The undertones lean towards red rather than green as a true neutral brown should. My hair doesn't look any more damaged than it did before coloring.
