Review on 🚘 Catalytic Converter for Subaru Forester, Impreza, Legacy, Outback, and Saab 9-2X – High Flow, EPA Compliant, Direct-Fit (2006-2012) by Firman Harrington

Took about 5 months

Initially the product was fine. Assembly was easy as everything fits together relatively well. I used different screws than the ones in the kit as they were very cheap. Also reused the bolts that go into the heads. Either way it started rattling after 5 months of good operation. Shortly thereafter the rattling stopped and I had very little strength left. I unscrewed the exhaust, looked inside and saw this. The catalyst material began to fall apart, rattling inside and now sticking to the side, blocking all exhaust flow. Honestly, that's not a big surprise; but I was hoping it would last longer. My engine compression test showed it was still within spec (albeit on the low end), I replaced both oxygen sensors, professionally cleaned the fuel injectors, replaced the fuel filter and pump strainer, mass air flow sensor was cleaned along with a full tune (ie spark plugs, Wire, coil, air filter, PCV valve and EGR valve replaced). I'm not saying the engine is in perfect condition, but given my mileage it's not bad. However, this catalyst should have lasted longer. I just find these things extremely cheap. I'll buy another cheap distributor here, but if it fails just as quickly (which it probably will) I might get an OEM replacement.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
