It took me a day to get used to this unit (because I didn't read the instructions at first). The key is to let the clip do its job after you plug it in: wait for it to open automatically when you turn on the car's ignition; Gently place the phone on the charging pad; the holder closes automatically (have been on the road for more than 20 hours, never fell out); Lightly press the metal button on the right side to release the phone. You never have to manually open or close the clip that holds your phone securely in place. The vent clip is one of the best I've seen. Regular magnetic vent holders have always been a problem for me, but this clip worked flawlessly once I installed it (even on the tiny vents in the Prius). This is such a cool device to keep your phone in place and charge on the go.
