Review on PalmOne Zire Handheld: Your Ultimate Companion for Organization and Entertainment by Chad Carter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Cheap, light, perfect for me

I bought a smaller Zire to replace the rickety M100. I read a lot of reviews, I want to note that this is NOT a PDA for advanced users. This is perfect for me, the busy mom who doesn't want to manually enter recurring dates (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.), who needs an easy-to-update, printable version of the monthly schedule for other family members and a place to store my personal contacts (less than 300) . It has an easy-to-understand interface, is sufficient for most personal user needs, and is AFFORDABLE. I bought it new for $61 off Amazon just before Christmas 2003 and Revain had a $20 rebate, no shipping so it cost me $46. My old trusty m100 which I bought circa 1997(?) cost me about $160 so I was hooked. And it's much lighter and smaller. So don't buy it already if you're a power user who wants wireless Bluetooth, 10,000 records, yada, yada. It's a great device for me and I'm very happy with it. The reason I'm giving it a 4 is because the documentation is pretty sparse and it took me some time to figure out that I had to use the MERGE function to use my old m100 address book and diary data. This is such a common need that it should have featured prominently in the FAQ and installation instructions. It's a great device for me and I'm very happy with it.
