I was looking for a bedside fan that produces white noise and keeps me cool during the summer months. Somewhere along the way I forgot to look at the physical size and focused on the CFM and so found this fan that I thought was the best listed. Well I should have paid closer attention as it is a bit too big to fit on my large bedside table (which is actually a small rectangular table) as the fan cowl is over 15" wide and the base alone is 15" x 16 . That's how it lives in my office, where it serves two purposes - cooling and white noise. Very quiet on the lowest settings, still moving 351cc. Feet per minute (per vortex) By comparison, several entry-level handheld fans operate at 350 cfm. Medium makes a big game changer - I couldn't find any published cfm for this setting, but I can guess it's somewhere between the low (351) and high (583) settings (467 cfm?). This is the setting I usually use as it produces a lot of mid-range white noise without turning my office into a tornado. It's enough white noise to drown out my family on the other side of my office's French doors and move a significant amount of air around me, which helps keep my area cool (several computers/monitors and other electrical devices running in constantly the closed room). It can get over 100 F in there without a fan. With a fan I'm usually 10 F hotter than the rest of the house (I point the fan at the bottom of one of the two French doors to facilitate air exchange since I have an HVAC outlet, but not. I have a special vent in my office to help airflow). The high speeds are 583 cfm, which is too much air movement in this space. However, I could use this setting if my air conditioner was out of order or I had to work in the attic and wanted to duct air from the house to the attic. The design allows the fan head to rotate about 45 degrees down and 90 degrees straight up, and in "High" mode at 583cfm it's definitely blowing enough air off the floor through the attic stair access hole to do the work there to make bearable. . Vornado fans and have bought at least 10 in the last ten years. Of these, two tower fans were broken out of the box (the fan came loose due to rough handling in the tower - shipping issues) and I believe the other three smaller units actually failed before the warranty expired (won't spin at low settings). ). Vornado customer service is fantastic, quick phone call, requested proof and my new fan was shipped the same day. That's why I keep buying their fans! Be sure to register your fan when you receive it to ensure you receive the full warranty period. Otherwise they may need to use a sticker on the fan to indicate the production date and the date of purchase. I think the days of having a fan in the last 10+ years are gone, but I hope this is the exception.
