I have a 45 lb dog that will chase a deer for miles if given the chance. This wide base pole combined with steel braided cable worked well when we couldn't keep an eye on it all the time in the garden. We've been using the stake since April 2021 and she has yet to escape or retrieve the stake from the ground. She is not tied up for long, does not get upset or nervous, but this stake prevents her from chasing animals. The mud I live in is soft and a bit gritty. I find the wide base made a huge difference - it would pull a regular stake out of the ground very easily.
