Review on πŸ”¦ COSOOS Waterproof LED Headlamp Flashlight with Carrying Case - Lightweight Head Lamp for Camping, Running, Reading - No AA Battery Required by Albert Tucker

Amazing light for the price

I bought one of these for a small camping survival kit I make. The light is way nicer than expected, and the case that comes with it is pretty darn cool. It's small, light, and runs on a single AA battery (I can't say enough about using one AA battery instead of three AAA batteries). Since it comes with a backup/survival kit, I use an Energizer lithium battery so it lasts a very long time or can be used in cold weather without fear of it running out of power when I need it. The case is a big plus and I can fit a battery in the flashlight along with a second spare in the case. Well! 2 batteries in one room. Sufficient operating hours to go for a walk at night if necessary. The light won't break any brightness records, but both low and high levels will do for this purpose. Thread (two side LEDs) do not see the point. But then again, price / quality, weight, single AA - it's great! One question I had was: does it use power when it's off? My meter isn't working very well, but I'm guessing the current draw was around 0.1mA, probably for an on/off switching (which is common). It's not a lot of power, but in a year my battery will be about 1/3 dead if I leave it installed. My solution was to just put one of those plastic flags (you know, pages in a book are marked to go 0.4" x 1") between the battery and the + terminal. That way I can just pull the tab and the battery will connect. No need to fiddle around in the dark trying to figure out which way to put the battery. Still 5 stars because I don't hold the manufacturer responsible for this typical switch power consumption. It doesn't matter if you use the light regularly. It is not intended to be stored for 3 years before use. Note on the AA situation. I also have a GPS that uses two AAs. So my goal is to make sure I use all types of batteries when hiking. So I have options.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Some little things
