Poor instructions and no instructions

There were no written instructions on how to put on the spiked collar. It was my dog trainer who showed me where to place the spiked collar. It should be placed just behind the ears to avoid pinching the dog's breathing tube. The lack of instructions prompted me to put a collar around my dog's windpipe. This is not where I should have placed it because no dog owner wants to damage or damage the trachea. Also, my trainer told me that I should have chosen a collar based on neck size and not my dog's weight and build.
