The downside is that they don't stay as hard and don't stay cold as long. Are you finding the best rocks for chilling drinks? Absolutely. But I don't think anyone buys these stones because they want the coldest stones. You need spherical stones. That's it. If that's what you're looking for. This is for you. They're all one piece, so I don't see a problem with anything getting inside. Everyone who saw these stones enjoyed them. This is a great conversation starter. They are unique and definitely worth it.
