I have used RIT several times over the years. Mostly to save aging cotton jeans. My latest project was an operation to rescue 4 faded black jeans. The result was excellent, all 4 jeans look like new. That being said, this is NOT an easy process. Aside from the paint, you'll need a ton of other things to make this according to the instructions. And allow about 3 hours to get it right. 1.) Plastic or metal containers for dye solution. Preferably outdoors. 2.) Enough hot (very hot) water to fill a container and cover clothing. RIT recommends 160 degrees Fahrenheit. That means, lots of water to boil. 3.) A cup of table salt to add to the dye solution. 4.) A little white vinegar added to the solution. ) A stable stick, e.g. B. a broom, to stir the fabric in the dyebath intermittently for 30-60 minutes. 6.) Cold water for rinsing after the dye bath. 7.) Some RIT color fixer to keep the color in place for a long time 8.) More hot water for the color fixer 9.) Cold water for rinsing after the fixer. I left my jeans outside in the metal bath for 60 minutes, occasionally stirring the fabric while I worked on the lawn. So you don't have to stand around for an hour while the stuff soaks in. It takes about 3-4 bays to flush and dump the container. An outdoor container and a garden hose come in handy. I used hot tap water (120 degrees Fahrenheit) and added 4 gallons of boiling water that I heated in 2 large pasta pots on the stove. I used a 1 x 2 piece of board as the stirring stick. The color fixer is a useful step. As a result, all your hard work will pay off in the longer life of your refurbished clothing.
