A few installation notes. As others have pointed out, the instructions are not very good. You will need to adjust the height of the new valve to match the height of the valve you are pulling out of your tank. The instructions state that to change the height of the valve, you must hold the valve stem with one hand and turn the bottom of the valve with the other hand. It's missing the fact that in order to adjust the valve in this way, you FIRST have to PUSH (and thereby loosen) the grey, bulbous lock ring you see in the photo of the valve. Then, when you have adjusted the valve height, lower the locking ring back into place. It's weird they missed it. Another issue that bothered me a bit was that this valve does not include a new fill tube. The instructions tell you to remove the old valve from the existing valve and attach it to the new valve. It's an easy step, but considering the cost of this fill valve and the fact that it's "genuine Kohler," I would prefer a new fill tube.
