Review on Improved Ultimate Direction Men's Mountain Vest Signature Series 5.0 for Enhanced Trail Running Performance by Jacob Kuntz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The cord (tensor) on the back was torn!

A good lightweight vest may be fine for "short" ultra races (30 miles), but definitely not for long distances. Unfortunately mine broke after 5 months of use. The "Cinch 2.0" cord that adjusts the tension in the back broke midway through a training run and 3 weeks before my R2R2R. I will try to get the cable directly from UD. I have been using Nathan bags for 10 years and have never had a problem. I tried UD and wasn't satisfied! **Update after contacting Ultimate Direction** Great customer service. Responded to my email right away and the next day they sent me 5ft of RCA 2.0 cables to fix the vest. I upgraded from 3 to 4 stars after this great answer from UD, but you don't expect a new $160 ultra running vest to break. after more than 20 runs. In fact, the RCA 2.0 system gets lost after a few kilometers and I have to constantly tighten it, which could damage the cable. As said, this is a good running vest for "short" ultras (30 miles) stations and support on the go. I would never take this vest on a long solo or self-sustaining run (50,100 miles).

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Electrical outlet required
