I have 2 of these for my 90 gallon and 1 for my 65 gallon and they are both incredibly clean. It is recommended to change the filter every month but it uses carbon much like a razor and can be used for up to 6 months without contaminating the water. If you rinse the sponge while cleaning the water, your water will be crystal clear. This filter is also completely silent, which is its best feature. I know there are bad reviews but I have lots of fish, my tank has a 3 foot siren and the water is clear. The best filter I've ever had
