There is a handle for raising and lowering tripod height, I tried using it but it sucked - then broke my hand. It turned out I had to unscrew one more component before using the grip. Perhaps this would be obvious to people with a lot of tripod experience, but it seems such a terrible design as well as poor build quality that the handle broke so easily.
