Review on πŸ’‘ Mean Well NES-100: 100W High-performance Single Output Power Supply by Ryan Maruffo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Typical Meanwell: Inexpensive, high-quality power supply

Meanwell specifications: http://www.meanwell.com/search/nes-100/nes-100-spec.pdf Meanwell test report: http:// www.meanwell.com/search/nes-100/nes-100-12-rpt.pdf Meanwell UL certification: http://www.meanwell.com/search/nes-100/E183223-UL-cer.pdf I spent time as an engineer at a promising electric vehicle company, including countless late nights and weekends in the lab, with switching power supplies ranging from a few watts to thousands of watts. I have about a dozen different brands of personal supplies, and I've seen dozens of different brands of power adapters in my time. Meanwell is a power supply that consistently performs well. They have solutions for almost every application and are constantly adding new models to their catalog as the world of power electronics continues to evolve. As I've always found, the unit is rock solid: it's well built, delivers advertised performance, and outputs a stable voltage (haven't tested the mV output ripple with my Fluke 289 but haven't tried it yet). I had no need for this app - LiPo bulk charging would be another story.) You must provide your own AC connection. I just cut the end of a spare IEC computer power cord and crimped some spade terminals that fit snugly into the power supply's screw terminals. My only concern is that the output voltage adjustment potentiometer is a bit finicky and a tiny adjustment can result in a somewhat large fluctuation in the output voltage. So I used a long L-handle Phillips screwdriver/wrench to make it easier to adjust in smaller increments.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Not all fit
