The moisture in the air attacks the metal and the only thing that protects the blade is oil. Yes, it's oily, but it's very sharp, and as long as you're only cutting fabric and nothing else like paper (made of wood), your blade will last a very, very long time. Lubricate the blade with oil to protect it when not in use and wipe it clean when ready to use. It's a pain but you paid so much for it so take care of it. I'm really excited about the sharpness. I have Fiskars shears and others and I find them to be an excellent product. Only time will tell, I only had a month. If it's bad I'll update. I'm sorry for the people who didn't like it. I keep my scissors because some people just don't understand that it's an easy tool to ruin.
