In the past I have mainly used melamine sponges to remove stains from walls or plastic patio furniture. However, I've found how useful they are for cleaning grout and other things like sinks, soap scum, and stubborn stains on a variety of things. The melamine foam feels very soft, but is actually quite abrasive and cleans really well. It should not be used dry or on shiny or natural stone surfaces. I prefer to wear gloves as I have very sensitive skin and melamine particles tend to dissolve and flake off and can irritate my hands.
