I don't know how it came about. Overall I give 3 stars. The cup itself is good enough. It's smaller than the pictures, although I believe it holds 16 ounces? I like the light color so I can see how dark my tea has turned out. But the whole reason most of us spend $15 on a mug is for the lid and the brewer. The metal teapot is ok but the lid is terrible. I like that it's wooden because I've broken ceramic lids in the past, but it doesn't fit. In fact, it's completely off-center. The round part that was glued onto the tea infuser lid is off-center, making the lid off-center. The lid doesn't sit tight either. He moves everywhere. You must hold it while walking, otherwise it will fall down. Had the lid been snug and not off center this would have been an over 3 star mug.
