I moved to Virginia from California and it held up well on the roof of the car and stayed in place the entire trip. I put it on backwards, zipper forward. When I got to Virginia he was in tears. That might be because I put it upside down on the car and the part exposed to wind and weather didn't hold up. I have a roof rack on my car to mount it on and I don't need extra straps. I didn't find the instructions that came with it very helpful. I used the supplied long straps for cars with no roof racks to cross attach it to my roof rack, although the instructions don't say so. A lot of water got into the bag through the tears, so I can't comment on the waterproof part. I knew from day one that the zippers were supposed to be in the back of the car, but the day I loaded the bag I completely forgot in the moving frenzy. I am responsible for the damage to the packaging, not the manufacturer. User error aside, the bag did what it was supposed to do. Yes, there is a sound similar to a half-open window. I've driven my Subaru 2900 miles with it.
