Review on Efficient Non Dimmable TCP Yellow Equivalent: The Ultimate Lighting Solution by Joseph Lang

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overview of the yellow beetle. Works here!

I have two of these amber/yellow TCP RLAS155WY LEDs on my porch. I used to have a regular CFL light and then one of these GE lights, the GE Lighting 47464 Energy Smart CFL Bug Light, 14W (60W spare), 750lm Medium Cap Nightlight. Regular CFL bulbs were the worst in this house. I couldn't come at night because of moths and various small insects. The GE light wasn't much better. I could have sworn there were a few fewer bugs, but it was bad enough that my wife said there was no difference. That light.that light.AMAZING. Nothing. No Bugs.Zero.Nada.Period! I cannot praise this light enough. I assume the LED combined with yellow must do the trick. The light of the GE bugs, i.e. CFL, will warm up a little more. This light, which is an LED, is always cool to the touch and completely amber. Also, I live on the outskirts of a small town in Kansas, so it's full of bugs. It's also dark outside when my light is off. These lights, again LED, direct the light downwards instead of upwards. As such, there is a lot of light near my door and about 8-10 feet from my path in the yard. However, there is no light in the sky and therefore no light pollution; and the stars still shine outside, even when they are close.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
