Yes you can use this scanner right out of the box - however there have been many vehicle and model updates that this unit has supported since the first release , including important ABS/SRS codes. The device you receive may have all the "latest" updates, so be sure to register and go through the update process. Is it easy to use? Yes, subject to the accompanying instruction manual. So why only 4 stars You need to register, create an account and follow a few steps to update the software. FIRST: A: Connect Autel AL619 to your car and make sure it works. B: Use the AL619 keyboard to go to the About screen. and write down both the serial number of the device and the password shown on the display. C: Disconnect AL619 from your vehicle. NEXT... To update the software and firmware on this unit you will need a PC with a USB port and a "micro SD card reader". If you don't have a micro SD card reader, these are available from Revain here. ( How to update 1) Make sure your computer is connected to the internet 2) Open a browser window on your computer and navigate to auteltech_dot_com Then follow the on-screen instructions to register your device and create an account 3) Then install the Autel software on your computer NOTE: You have two options to install the software, you can use the CD that came with the AL619... but you'd better use the "Maxi PC Suite" program from Autels -Download and install website as this is the latest and most up to date version.Just go to autel_dot_com_/download4)After you create an account.and after you are current alized the "Maxi PC Suite" software on your home computer. Remove the micro PC card from the Autel AL619 (press the edge of the card with your fingernail and it will appear. (see attached photos) 5) Insert the Autel micro SD card into the micro SD card reader, and then insert the micro SD card reader into your computer's USB port. 6) Start the Maxi PC Suite program on your computer (installed in step 3) and wait for the login window to appear. 7) Enter your Autel ID and Password that you created. (until step 2 above) and wait for the update window to appear. If prompted, log in to your account. 8) When prompted, enter the serial number and password you wrote down in step B above (this is not your account login password). Click OK to continue. 9) In the update window, select the items you want to install. It is advisable and beneficial to select "Select All" to get all available upgrades, even if you don't own any of the listed vehicles. So your scanner is ready to work on almost any vehicle you want to eliminate.
