Upgraded from a 10 year old PC with a 2.20GHz dual core HP Pavilion processor to my first custom PC with that CPU at its heart. It goes without saying that the limitations of my old PC no longer hindered my workflow, as did the games I multitask with no problem. It works together with the MSI Radeon RX 560 AERO ITX 4G OC128-bit 4GB graphics card. There are many benchmarks of how well this processor performs in games, especially popular games, which I don't need to go into as I'm more interested in video. So watching YouTube videos in 1080p is something different that comes from 480p, although without realizing it I sometimes still watch in 480p. old habits. Watching 1080p HEVC video with no lag is another sight to behold, heck the Ryzen 5 2600 isn't in its final form with this stuff yet. [Edit Oct 2020] Watching 4K videos on YouTube is no problem either. The exceptions are of course based on your internet speed's ability to buffer quickly. I'm not sure about watching 4K HEVC videos even though my monitor resolution is only 1080p. [Edit October 25, 2020] Video encoding can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 10 hours depending on length, resolution and chrominance sampling profile and filters used. increases the coding time. A 24 minute clip with very slow or placebo settings (with filters) will not cause speed problems when encoding H.264 10bit. From a 4:2:0 or 4:4:4 chrominance sampling profile, it's done quickly with an encode rate of 18 streams! This is because I spent almost a whole day working on my old PC's measly three threads with the same settings. Regular 8-bit H.264 uses a maximum of 15 threads (if --thread=0 is used) and is obviously much faster than its 10-bit counterpart. I recommend trying the tesa + subme 11 mode with any profile if time is not an issue. Haven't tested it with HEVC yet. The very slow and maritime settings (no melody) of a 24-minute clip lasted about 2 to 13 hours depending on the number of filters applied (e.g. high-performance filters such as anti-aliasing) with a maximum number of pools of 12 (es is something like --thread in H.264, but not really?) if left on default. An 8-bit, 10-bit, or 12-bit profile shortens or lengthens the time. However, a higher quality is achieved, e.g. B. smoother gradients that reduce banding, color format (both at the expense of more processing power during playback) and of course chroma sampling is used. Remember, if compatibility is your goal, consult the x265 documentation if you are interested, especially with the release of HEVC 3.0 (GCC 8.3.0) that brings a number of changes such as: B. adding melody animations. It should be noted that this was all done on a single Crucial 8GB DDR4 RAM, which rarely achieves 100% RAM output when performing all of the above steps while encoding, but I may add an additional 8/16 in the future Add GB of RAM, especially for 1080p encodings (and 4K ) HEVC, so you might want to upgrade your RAM if that's your goal. Also, please note that if you're watching a streaming video like YouTube while waiting for the video to end, make sure you don't open too many browser tabs. Experience has shown that memory increases closer to 100% if you only have 8GB. I bought this through an OutletPC dealer and they were able to help me with my problems and questions as a first time CPU buyer even though they weren't. not the best help, it got the message across about CPU handling and the likelihood that it's the root cause of troubleshooting hardware to boot the PC properly.
