We bring the old tripod back to life.

I have an old Focal tripod (K-Mart) that I like - it's only 62" but aluminum, only 3#, and has cam foot adjusters. has a dovetail QD plate that has lost the rubber pad and was therefore no longer fitted. I couldn't find any replacement platters that seemed to fit, but I did find this replacement head that fits newer grooved platters and bolts directly on (almost*). It looks like it's all metal so I think it should be durable. It has two knobs to lock the ball in place (one large and one smaller) that seem to work well, and another small knob to lock the swivel. I hope I get used to the ball head soon. so, and it was much cheaper than a whole tripod. It also gives me the ability to set up more things without having to change tripods. QD plate. * It would be nice if it had a 1/4" thread (that's 3/8) because it would fit snugly into an old tripod. But for a few bucks I got quite a handful of threaded sockets. Fits now.

Pros
  • Great general specs
Cons
  • Ok
