Review on πŸ’§ WiFi Water Leak Detector: Smart Water Alarm Sensor with App Alert, Remote Water Monitoring Alarm for Home Security & Basement by Scott Snyder

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Small, easy to install, works great

A water heater in the attic of our old house used to make me nervous, like a disaster just about to happen. I've been looking for water detectors for a long time, but I didn't like the idea of a "dumb" device with its own alarm (what if I'm not home?), and smart devices weren't badly designed or overpriced either. (looks at you, Moen) or both. I jumped at the opportunity to try this device and am very glad I did. The first thing that surprised me was the size. He's tiny. It comes in a box the size of a ring box, and the Wi-Fi module and detector fit in the palm of my hand (see photo). You can install it in the toilet and it will go unnoticed. Setup was quick and I'm glad it uses the Tuya SmartLife platform like 99% of my other smart devices (I have about 20 of them). Open the app with the pin provided, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the lights flash rapidly, then follow the in-app setup instructions. Maximum 90 seconds. I tested the device with a cup of tap water and it worked flawlessly. About 3-5 seconds after I just submerged the metal pins (about 1/8 inch), my phone emitted a very distinct beep that repeated about a dozen times and a push notification indicated that water was detected. After taking them out of the water, I got a second notification that the sensor was back to "normal". Repeated this several times and it worked every time. The app also includes a battery indicator and sends a push notification when 2 AAA batteries (not included) need to be replaced. .Installation was also easy. The kit includes two drywall anchors, two screws, and two 3M VHB standoffs. I used the latter to attach the device to the water heater. with Alexa, although as far as I can tell it's an Alexa issue with an unsupported device type and specifically not an issue with this device. It would be nice to sound an alarm through the Echo speakers, but a phone will do. At just $15,000, it's a steal. I will buy two more for the dishwasher and the washing machine. In this way, damage in the thousands can be avoided.
