This is my third attempt at making stair steps. My hardwood staircase is painted dark espresso. They were very slippery due to the satin stain. I first bought rubber backed carpet runners and it was a nightmare as they kept moving and always looked dirty. My OCD was tested with them so they didn't last long. Then I bought a similar product but in a transparent color. Big mistake while they worked well and did their job. Clear's distorted appearance and all the air bubbles that wouldn't flatten out just looked ugly. I finally found these that are black to go well with my stairs, I tore off the old clear ones, removed the remaining glue with rubbing alcohol and reinstalled them. They are almost invisible to the eye and do a great job of preventing me from falling down the stairs!
