A good addition to house slippers. SONY headphones

Today I will share my impressions about the next headphones. I have been using miniature in-ear headphones for many years, and in general I like them. In recent years, these droplets have greatly progressed, and even relatively inexpensive models have a good sound. But although they say that they don’t look for good, I really wanted to buy something more solid, in the form of overhead headphones with a headband. Like the ones I had when I was young, when I used these headphones to enjoy the magical flight with the band Space. Unlike miniature headphones, the market for on-ear devices is now practically not developing. But at the same time, they have their admirers, and manufacturers offer a sufficient number of models, of which you can find the most suitable in terms of price and quality. When I made my choice, I considered exclusively wireless headphones. I understand that classic wired headphones that do not have their own built-in amplifier, for the most part, provide better playback, and you do not have to constantly bother with charging them. But I have already weaned from their long cord and do not want to return to it anymore. And from the wireless on-ear headphones, I liked the Sony WH-CH510 model, which belongs to the middle price segment. The price for them, depending on the greed of the store, varies quite widely from 2000 to 3000 rubles. Personally, I got these headphones for 1800 rubles under the promotion and using bonuses. They are delivered in a small cardboard box, which the eminent manufacturer made in a strict and even ascetic style. Style is style, but the box looks somehow poor, orphan. On the back of the box are the main characteristics and there are several pictures where the control buttons and the location of the microphone are indicated. Made in Vietnam. Actually, the country of origin is not of great importance, since headphones are produced at Sony enterprises, and this brand is a guarantee of a high level of product quality. I just don’t understand why there was no place for the branded warranty card inside the box, they put it in a bag and glued it outside. When opening the package, you can simultaneously acquire the skill of working with its contents. Everything you need is given in the drawings on the valve. The packaging itself is very reliable, and inside it the headphones are additionally packed in a corrugated cardboard box and wrapped in a soft bag. In general, it is hidden far and securely, like the death of Koshchei the immortal in an egg, an egg in a duck, a duck in a hare, etc. But if desired, a good fellow like me can get to the treasured contents. In addition to the headphones themselves, the package includes a small charging cable and instructions for use. There are two instructions. One of them is universal in pictures, with the help of which the work with headphones is described. The text in it is completely absent, but it will be understandable for people who speak any language. And the second instruction already contains mostly text, which, however, is of little use. Mainly safety measures are given, and various warnings. Reading these horror stories, one gets the impression that you have a deadly weapon in your hands and you need to be on the alert so that when you use it, you won’t be crippled and smash our planet to shreds. Along with the instructions, a tiny charging cable fell out of the box, the length of which, excluding connectors, is no more than 16 centimeters. Now such short cables in the configuration are quite common. And I would take it easy if he wasn't so tough. The cable is difficult to unbend and it is almost impossible to use it. I only once connected it to the charger and decided that I would not mock myself from now on, and threw it into the far corner. And here are the Sony WH-CH510 headphones themselves. Mine are navy blue but also available in white or black. Purely subjectively, blue is the most interesting and practical color, on which dust or hand marks are not so noticeable. The case of the headphones is plastic, and even the part of the headband, where its length is regulated, is also plastic. Feels like they seem flimsy, you need to handle them carefully and not throw them anywhere. And then accidentally leaning on them, you can hear the crunch of breaking plastic. However, the absence of metal parts is both a disadvantage and an advantage. After all, due to this, the headphones turned out to be very light and weigh only 130 grams. And you hardly feel them on your head. An interesting feature of this model is a slightly embossed plastic with a mesh pattern. Unlike smooth, it looks much more interesting, small scratches and fingerprints are not so terrible. The speakers in the headphones are covered with a loose black fabric and surrounded by soft ear cushions, covered with thin leatherette on top. They easily change their shape and are pleasant to the touch. The ears do not get tired of them, even if you do not take them off for quite a long time. Although after about 40 minutes my ears sweat slightly under the ear pads, but this does not cause tangible discomfort. Perhaps fabric would be better for the body, but leatherette is much easier to clean if needed. The ear cups rotate at the joints and adjust easily to your head, taking the most optimal position on your head. By turning the cups 90 degrees relative to the headband, we get a flatter and more convenient design for transportation. Of course, in terms of their dimensions, they are far from miniature in-channel "droplets”, and you can’t put the Sony WH-CH510 in your pocket with all your efforts. But in the bag it is in this folded form that they will already fit. In this photo, I also gave the overall dimensions of the headphones. Unfortunately, the headband is also entirely plastic, without a soft inner insert. Perhaps for owners of lush hair, this does not matter, but for my smooth head, a small insert (for example, made of foam rubber) would provide more comfortable use of the headphones. The length of the headband is adjusted to the size of the head and can be increased from the minimum by 40 millimeters on each side. It’s hard for me to imagine what kind of head this is designed for, because 25 millimeters was quite enough for my 60th head size. The left earpiece is the most common, and the control buttons are located on the right. The algorithm of their functioning is standard for most of these devices. The central, largest button, when pressed for a long time, turns the headset on and off. In addition, short presses pause and play, or you can accept and reject an incoming phone call. And with the help of two buttons located on the sides, the volume is adjusted or playback is switched to the previous or next track. The buttons are large enough and easy to use. The central button is embossed and easily groped by hand, so you can’t confuse it with anything. Feeling it with your finger will not be difficult, literally after a few training clicks, you get used to it and in the future you control the headphones without looking. In addition to the buttons, there is a miniature indicator that winks blue during operation. A little further than the indicator is a connector for charging the modern USB Type-C standard, and even to the right is the hole of the built-in microphone. That is, these are not only headphones, but also a headset with a microphone, with which you can chat on the phone. The interlocutor hears you well, but this is if you are talking to him from a quiet room. These headphones do not have a noise reduction function, and if you communicate on the street, then not only your voice is amplified, but also all the surrounding extraneous noise. It may be nothing for you, but take pity on your interlocutor, who, in addition to your voice, also hears a cacophony of various sounds. When choosing headphones, I paid great attention to the autonomy of their work. If you take such a fairly large thing, then you expect it to work for a long time without recharging. According to the manufacturer on a single charge Sony WH-CH510 work up to 35 hours when listening to music or 30 hours of talk time. In reality, I really got about 35 hours of work when listening to audiobooks. Just a great result. The earbuds take about four hours to charge. During this time, the red indicator light is on, which goes out when charging is complete. It is somewhat strange that the headphones do not work while charging. But I'm already picking this up. This situation happened to me only once, and then, by pure chance. And if the headphones are dead and there is no time to wait for a full charge for four hours, then you can quickly cheer them up for 10 minutes, which will provide you with 90 minutes of work. Wireless connection is carried out using the current version of Bluetooth 5.0. With a smartphone, the headphones communicate quickly and without problems. The connection is very stable, and the connection does not break throughout the apartment, even through two brick walls. The volume is enough for comfortable listening. Usually I have only two-thirds of the maximum volume involved. So there is a decent supply even for those who like to have eardrums rattle in time with the melody. Sound quality is a very subjective thing, it is difficult to judge it. These headphones have it all. These are decent basses, well-developed mids, and there are high frequencies. Although for my taste the tops could be a little more. But this is not the most important thing. It happens that a decent orchestra has gathered, the sound is quite balanced, but it has not played at full power. Same with these headphones. When playing my favorite instrumentals and songs from romantic collections, there is not that transparent sound that I like. Although it is quite possible that if I had listened to rock or pop music instead of instrumentals, I would never have noticed this. However, for the last year I have become interested in audiobooks, and I took these headphones mainly for their sake. And I have no complaints about the quality of reproduction of the voice of the reader and musical accompaniment. And as I noted above, the sound quality during telephone conversations is also quite decent. In addition to playing audio content, the Sony WH-CH510 headphones themselves are not averse to chatting. A female voice in English each time pronounces information about turning them on or off and about establishing a Bluetooth connection. I must admit that I generally prefer channel headphones. It is more convenient with them, they are small in size, etc., etc. They only have one drawback - they are easy to lose. Especially when you go in for sports - I didn’t have time to look back, and the earpiece rode off somewhere. Actually, that's why I think that there should be a lot of headphones, and they should be different. So, for example, when I'm winding up miles with Nordic walking poles, I use JBL sports headphones that fit well in my ears. At work, I also use wireless, but channel headphones that do not burst my ears so much. And for the house, remembering his youth and for the sake of variety, he bought himself invoices. When you can’t walk outside due to bad weather, I work out at home on an elliptical trainer. On weekdays it is about half an hour, and on weekends I can pedal for an hour a day. To somehow brighten up the monotony of classes, I became addicted to listening to audiobooks. And I bought Sony WH-CH510 headphones mainly for this. In my opinion, they are great for home use. And their size at home is no longer a disadvantage, but a virtue. After all, you will definitely put tiny droplets somewhere, and then you will have to look for them for a long time. No wonder they say - you put it farther away, you look longer. And with fairly large overhead headphones, this will not work. They are visible from afar. I came up with a great storage place for them right on my "sports ground”. At the end of the lesson, the headphones are very conveniently attached to the crossbar of the simulator, and there is no need to look for them next time. True, we recently got a new pet and also became addicted to listening to books - you see, give him fairy tales at night. CONCLUSIONS Headphones need different: for sports and for quiet listening to music or books. These headphones are not very similar, they are quite loose on the head and when walking fast, and even more so when running, they will fidget. But for a quiet home environment, this is a suitable option. And the quality of their sound for this price category is pretty decent. The bottoms and tops are in their places, the sound is without distortion and extraneous noise. There is also no nasty metallic tinkling that is typical for cheap headphones, especially in the upper part of the range. Throughout the range, the sound is smooth, without dips or jumps in any frequencies. In general, I liked the Sony WH-CH510 headphones. And already summing up the final results, I will put together and briefly list their advantages and disadvantages. PROS: + beautiful appearance; + Bluetooth 5.0; + USB Type-C; + stable connection; + long battery life + lungs; + not perfect, but quite decent sounding; + non-staining plastic; + well-known brand. LIMITATIONS: - very short and hard charging cable; - For me, there is not enough soft lining on the headband. RECOMMENDATIONS: Headphones Sony WH-CH510 may not be for the coolest music lovers, but for people who just love listening to music or books at home. Moreover, there is some old-fashioned charm in them. For me anyway. They remind me of the times of my unforgettable youth, when listening to "Mouzon” through such headphones was cool! With a final score of "four", I recommend them for purchase for home use. They are best suited for listening to audiobooks, but in principle they can be connected to a TV to watch your favorite programs until late without disturbing household noise. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for your attention.
