I just installed these speakers today. They were packed in several styrofoam boxes and wrapped in nice bags to protect them from scratches. Unfortunately, the bags were a misjudgment on the part of the manufacturer. The bags have a hard plastic locking mechanism (pictured) and either during packaging or shipping this piece of hard plastic shifted and landed between the edge of the speaker and the styrofoam. This resulted in a cracked dent and an additional dent on the right speaker (pictured). Neither the sound quality nor the speaker itself seem to have been damaged. I really don't want to have a broken dent on my speaker...but I also really don't want to try and repackage these things in all the boxes they came in, drive miles across town, the speakers to a UPS to bring camp, and then wait for weeks until no new ones come ... it's hot outside, but I'm too lazy. So I'm not sending them back...but I'm very disappointed that for $500 I'd be put in the situation of a manufacturer error in the packaging, forcing me to go to great lengths or live with a brand new cracked speaker. I don't have to waste hours of my time and wait days to use a product I've already paid for and been waiting for. The stupid thing is⦠these bags are basically just dust covers. There's literally no reason for them to have a lanyard with a big hard plastic clasp. This 100% contradicts the purpose of the bag. So, manufacturers, if you're reading this, reach out to your packaging engineer and ask them to reconsider the way these packages are sealed. A simple fabric drawstring cord without the hard plastic fastener does the same job, saving you money (because these fasteners are definitely not zero cost) and preventing damage to the product in transit. As the damage was due to the original manufacturer packaging I cannot give this product the 5 stars that I would otherwise have given it. I give them 3 stars because they sound good and work well, but the anger I feel at that stupid cracked dent makes me give them 1 star just so you know.
