Review on High-Quality Shure AONIC 5 Wired Sound Isolating Earbuds by Liz Trujillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fiction. In fact, very good.

I bought my first pair of Shure IEM headphones around 2010 and they were terribly expensive, around $500 I think. In fact, I DEFINITELY know; It was a lot of money for me at the time, but it sounded miles, miles and tons better than anything else I could put in my ears, and no matter how much I jumped, it never fell out. 10 years later these 530s still sound great. These are better. I think it makes sense to talk about the sound first. although it starts with fit and soundproofing. I know people who need them for a good hobby/job but don't wear them because their ears are a bit off average. If that's you, buy a pair of SE215's for less than 100 and see for yourself. They fit about the same but sound twice as good. Well, isolation. Much of it fits. If you're unfortunate enough to have imperfectly sized ear canals that make silicone tips uncomfortable for long periods of time, foam tips or Comply tips are a real eye-catcher. Either way, you get enough isolation from ambient and cable noise to really let the sound through. The sound is impressive. Triple riders aren't just hype. There's a reason Shure has been making big bucks off the 530 and then the 535 for over a decade, and it's because they're awesome. This is next generation and they are amazing too! I couldn't ask for more, I don't think my ears are capable of hearing a "better" sound. They're just perfect to my ears, but if you don't like how they come out of the box, you can warm them up with a cap that boosts the bass a little, or throw in another that brightens them up. one piece. It's not (just) a gimmick, bright attachments increase detail at the expense of lower tones, but I didn't really appreciate the difference with the bass boost filter. I like the settings that come with choosing these. MMCX is a specification, you can read about it on Wikipedia if you want, but it means the headphone cable you REALLY need is available and not too expensive. Long, short, memory wire or not. Bluetooth, Lightning, mini jack, phono stage, even XLR. you want it, you got it MMCX. They come with all the goodies of the earbuds (Black Foam, Yellow Foam, Comply, Plain Silicone, and Triple Flange) and a plain 1/8" TRRS to MMCX cable with a three-button remote with Android/iOS switch supplied. It's fine, but the three button remote is a little clunky and I was missing the middle button. It doesn't matter, buy the cable you want. I personally use Shure's own Bluetooth 5 cable (currently sold at the Shure store for $80 with a pair of 215 cables - cheap cables you see). The carrying case is the size of a hockey puck and doesn't have any nasty branding. It has a good zipper and looks like great leather. It may or may not work with the cable you choose, but it will definitely work with the cable in the box. You also get an earwax remover and one of those little bottles of nitro pills with an O-ring that you can wear around your neck (it comes with sound filter attachments). The retail packaging is pretty neat too, it's about 7 inches tall. in diameter, and would probably be fun to wrap if you're in the gift-giving mood. Bottom line: buy them and you too can rock like Slayer.
