Out of the box, I believe it goes into "dialogue" mode, which is completely bass-less. No matter how you increase the bass, it's ridiculous and insufficient. But use the remote to change the setting to "Music", crank the bass up to the max, and I think you'll find it decent. Not incredible, but definitely worth the price. Having discovered this, I always consider it "music" with bass emphasis. I think that's why people complained about the lack of lower levels. It would be better if they included an EQ app with settings to save. It's strange that selecting "Movie" doesn't give the same result as "Music" or "Dialogue". Instead, you have to look for it. Sounds good for the money but audiophiles will be very disappointed.
