They were solid wood and very very pretty. i have black I've read reviews of other products and didn't want them as they described veneer/cheap thin pieces of material with laminate on them. NOT THESE. Good solid wood and perfect size. I use one on the couch, one on the nightstand to protect the top, and the top of the dresser for loose change, keys, etc. They seem to last a very long time. I couldn't be happier with the quality for this price. Many Thanks.
