Bought this and a box of National Geographic Play Sand at the same time to compare, found this. The Nat Geo brand is fine-grain sand. It is slightly darker and much lighter than the Kinetic Sand brand. (I bought natural/undyed for each type.) However, it also shows fine detail much better than the kinetic sand brand and feels more comfortable as the finer sand makes it smoother and softer. It looks almost fluffy. The kinetic type of sand is wetter and harder, so it holds its shape better. It also seems to last longer as it doesn't leave sand on your hands like the Nat Geo brand. Something is lost every time you play with Nat Geo-Sand as it sticks to your hands and clothes. It's hard to say which brand I prefer because they're both great. I mixed two sands in a container, hope they go well together! I'll try to update my review if I have trouble mixing the two sands.
